Jack Welch has appeared twice at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he taught a class in 2006, to answer questions from honorary MIT chairman Alex D’Arbeloff and MIT students about his business philosophies and management style.
When asked to give advice on leadership, Welch said, “Your job will not be doing much of the stuff you’ve learned here. Your job will be dealing with people, for the most part, evaluating them, building great teams, exciting them, giving them the vision, and showing them how to take the hill. That really is your job. And your job won’t be being the smartest person in town. It will be rallying smart people to do the job.”
